(more) ABOUT ME

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Emma Miles is a curator, writer, and cultural manager based between Europe and the Caribbean. Her practice explores the intersections of cultural memory, contemporary art, and community engagement. She is committed to research-based projects that foster critical dialogue, collaborating with artists and institutions to curate exhibitions and public programmes that engage diverse audiences.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Linguistics from McGill University, where she specialised in sociolinguistics with a focus on identity and code-switching, and conducted research on lexical and phonological shifts in language over time. She later earned a Master's in Curatorial Practice from the Istituto Europeo di Design (Firenze), where she refined her skills in contemporary art curation and exhibition design. For her dissertation, The Tilt of Time, she collaborated with seven contemporary artists and a curatorial collective of ten women, co-developing the public programme and exhibition catalogue.

Some of her recent curatorial projects include Sense of Place (Kingston, 2025), Reimagining Cultural Memories (Kingston, 2024), Heather Sutherland Wade: Hues of Jamaica (Kingston, 2024), The Tilt of Time (Florence, 2023), and Memory Effect (Florence, 2023). Before working in curatorial practice, Emma founded Joined Feeling, a made-to-order apparel brand celebrating colour and Jamaican culture, where she led all aspects of design, production, and creative direction.

Recently relocated to Lisbon, she is reconnecting with the local arts and design community and continues to build cross-cultural dialogue through her work.
